SMED (QUICK CHANGEOVER) WORKSHOPS
Changeover time is the time between the last piece off one production run and the first GOOD piece off the next run. The phrase "single minute" does not mean that all changeovers and startups should take only one minute, but that they should take less than 10 minutes (in other words, "single-digit minute").
- The Single Setup is an innovative concept invented by the Japanese in the field of Industrial Engineering
- The single setup should not be considered a technique (Tool)
- It is a concept that requires a change in attitude by all the people in the factory
- The shortening of setup time is promoted not by the I.E. staff, butt trough the activities of small groups of direct laborers
